About Nancy Andrews
Camp Care
Video Info

I am involved in fundraising for Camp Care through my physical therapist, Lisa Knox. She runs a camp in Connecticut for children with a number of problems. The following page is a comprehensive description of the program. I am hoping that with my help and your help the program will grow and benefit those less fortunate. Any contributions you can make will help make a difference in these children's lives. I contribute a portion of the ticket sales from the Northeast Classic Bodybuilding and Fitness show to the Camp. They are doing great things with the children and with more funding they can help more people.

Along with the contribution I make, I am also selling photos and t-shirts. All photos of Nancy Andrews at the bottom of this page may be purchased . I will personally sign each photo and send it to you. All of the proceeds from the sale of the photos will go to Camp Care. When purchasing photos, please indicate which photo you would like by using the name listed under the photo - and please specify a quantity. Send your check for $15 per photo made out to Camp Care, Inc., the non-profit business running the camp. The purchase is a tax deductible expense. Your signed photo will be mailed within two weeks.

CAMP CARE

At Crossroads and Crossroads Rayann Physical Therapy we treat a large number of children with neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions. These children have injuries or diseases that are genetic, occur during fetal development, during the birth process, traumas after birth, or other diseases such as cancer or leukemia. Their diagnoses may include cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, seizure disorders, autism, and ADHD.

Because of the dysfunction with the central nervous system, these children need intensive structural and functional physical therapy in order to function optimally in their environments, with tasks such as speech, eating, dressing, toileting and bathing. They also have many equipment needs such as braces, standers, specialty wheelchairs, strollers or special vans for transportation. Most times, insurance companies do not cover nearly the full cost of these items.

In addition, if the child is of school age, they are provided therapy in that setting, which is most often functional in nature. While this may be helpful to maintain the status quo, unless a child's structure is made more mobile, they will not progress functionally. That is why we often hear from the school therapists that the child has plateaued. We have found, with our treatment of children, that we continue to see improvement, and in fact, many miracles have happened.

Since these children need so much intensive therapy, we have made a commitment to provide them with intensive, multi-hands on therapy through Camp Care two times per year. Summer Camp will be held in August 2002 and again for three days during the Christmas season. It is currently held at an Easter Seals facility, Camp Hemlock, in Hebron, Connecticut. It is a beautiful facility with outdoor activities, a pool, sleeping quarters and a full kitchen, all equipped for those with special needs. This allows the families of these children to stay and participate in therapy, meals, swimming and other activities together. In addition, we provide some respite for parents through massage, prayer groups, treatment and babysitting. For many parents of children with special needs, this is a small break from a very demanding life.

All the children who are treated in both offices are eligible for the camp, at the discretion of the directors. We are also able to take outside referrals as long as they are first evaluated through the office.

In the past, we have funded the Camp through teaching courses in manual therapy to other therapists. As the camp grows, and as the facility is more in demand for other programs, we realize that with outside support, we could service more children, and perhaps even renovate or build a facility to use year round. There are also many other needs associated with these children such as special equipment, transportation, and therapy for those without means.

We would be very grateful for any support to help in our mission of giving these children the therapy they need in order to function optimally in this world. Thank you for your generosity and may God Bless You.

Checks may be made payable to Camp Care, Inc. All contributions are tax deductible.
